Event ID: 101: The assignment of application Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX from policy TestWin7Push failed. The error was. Event ID: 1112: The Group Policy Client Side Extension Software Installation was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. These errors tell me that your GPO and software distribution are working fine. It's the installer itself that's failing for some reason, and (probably) not reporting 'why' back to the launching process. To that end, they're telling you to check the log file of the installer to determine why, presuming the installer. ![]() Hey all I am trying to perform software installation via group policy. I have configured the GPO to assign the.msi, however the software will not install. Environment is SBS 2008 based AD, Windows 7 clients. If I run gpupdate /force from client it seem to attempt to perform installation but fails as expected due to synchronous processing requirements, and I receive the following errors in the system event log: Event ID 101: The assignment of application Adobe Reader 9 from policy Install Software failed. The error was:%%1274 Event ID 103: The removal of the assignment of application Adobe Reader 9 from policy Install Software failed. The error was:%%2 Event ID 108: Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. The installation of software deployed through Group Policy for this user has been delayed until the next logon because the changes must be applied before the user logon. The error was:%%1274 Event ID 1112: The Group Policy Client Side Extension Software Installation was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance. I have also enabled the following GPO's which have been recommended as possible fixes: 'Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon' 'Startup policy processing wait time' (have tried several settings from 20 to 600 seconds) I have also changed permissions on share to provide Everyone access (as well as Domain Computers and every other combination of permissions I could think of). I have actually tried this in 2 different domains, both with the same results. I have also tried several different MSI's from several different vendors. 'I am trying to perform software installation via group policy' Can you tell us exactly which Group Policy settings you used to achieve this. I assume that you added it to the computer Software Installation key? To be honest I have found that method to be a tad unreliable as yopu can basically only install a single '.msi' from a single network share. We tend to write a startup script or logon script to install software. So the software doesn't install multiple times we create a marker file on completion of the install. Event Id 101 Software InstallationIf exist 'c: markers MDAC installed.txt' exit softwareserver Software MDAC setup. Keiko matsui a drop of water download game. exe /q echo 'Mdac Installed' >'c: markers MDAC installed.txt' On slow networks for big packages you will need to set the script timers. Thanks for your replies. To answer your questions: GPO is Computer Configuration > Policies > Software Settings > Software Installation I have tried with UAC enabled and disabled I have tried using a setting as low as 5 seconds for 'Startup policy processing wait time' Yes, I have restarted after running gpupdate /force, both by using the gpupdate /force /boot option and manually. Was hoping to use GPO to roll out this software for a number of clients, but looks like I may have to resort to using a logon script instead.
